Starting December 15, 2008, I took a year off to travel around the world, with two rules: no planes and (almost) no reservations. The planned route is due south from Arkansas, through Central America and the west side of South America. Over to Argentina, boat to South Africa, and up the east side of Africa. Then Eastern Europe, the Trans-Siberian railroad, bit of China, SE Asia, then Australia, New Zealand and the three week boat ride home.

The Norias of Hamah

17 Norias (water wheels) that date back to Ottoman times in the city, which is in Syria. When they are in use, they make a distinctive sound.
